crepuscular dawn

Crepuscular Dawn refers to a series of interviews with French essayist Paul Virilio, where he describes a world on the cusp of a new era and the cataclysms that will transform it. The paintings depict overlooked edges of unknown landscapes captured with night vision technology. Connecting a 2010 series of cartoon-like explosions with earlier paintings that riff on infra red and night vision imagery, this series plays off our day-to-day interaction with predatory technologies. ‘Crepuscular’ refers to a state resembling twilight, or the interval between night and day that is paradoxically both and neither. The word conjures images of an area of the atmosphere where sunlight is not refracted, and of creatures that are active before sunrise.
